    Clear Winners

I absolutely love these clear acrylic display shelves from Hay but they are so, so expensive. I’m not sure how they are hanging these things on the wall. From what I can tell, they have some sort of tiny little metal hangers on the backs. But maybe there’s a way to fake it with those acrylic boxes you find at the craft store? Keep your fingers crossed.

    A Penny for Your Thoughts

I’m sure I’m not the only woman who occasionally thinks her purse feels a little heavy and then discovers fists full of pennies at the bottom. My usual solution for this problem is to dump all of the coins onto my desk at home. Then I get annoyed that there are pennies blocking the movement of my mouse and I start looking for another place to dump them. Thus far, that place has been my pen cup, which is now so full of pennies there is no room for pens. And that’s why I really want the coin storage from Molla Space. It holds your keys and keeps your coins out of the way until you have a chance to make it to the Coin Star machine.

    Cut It Out

Let’s all try to ignore the fact that I titled this post with a Full House reference which I shamelessly stole because these Cut Out shelves from Susan Bradley are really quite striking. Especially when hung in sets of two or three.

The only worry I have is actually setting things in front of those fantastic silhouettes. It seems a shame to cover them up. And as Matthew of Slipcast points out, if you love and collect pottery, do you really need these shelves?

    Give Them a Hand

I’m not much for refrigerator magnets. For me, they’re an invitation to turn my refrigerator into a giant pile of clutter. But I am sorely tempted by The Art of The Hand magnet set, each of which features a different hand signal. And no, that one you’re thinking of is not included. ;)

    Cook’s Best Friend

I can’t tell you how many of my cookbooks are covered with dried glops of dough and mysterious dribbles of au jus. Actually, I can. It’s all of them. Luckily, Target’s Umbra Cuisina Cook Book Stand can solve this problem for under $20.

    In the Clear

In one of Domino’s final issues, they featured a room with a large, cylindrical glass magazine holder. It was really more like a big vase that sat on the floor near a nice reading nook. I searched and searched for something similar as I hoard my decorating a cooking magazines for years. Eight months later, I’ve found an acceptable substitute. CB2 has this Format floor magazine holder. It’s a lucite square basket, not a cylinder, but the aesthetic is just about the same.

    Cleaned Up

The shower is where we go to get clean. But, if you have an older bathroom, your shower is unlikely to offer many options for organizing all the soaps, shampoos, etc. you need to accomplish your goal. You can get a shower caddy, but they tend to look as messy as leaving everything out on the bathtub floor. But this little gadget is actually quite stylish. It holds your small, oddly shaped necessities with ease and keeps water from collecting around them. Genius.

    Identity Crisis

I can’t imagine this shower caddy from Urban Outfitters as an actual shower caddy. It just seems totally out of place when I think of it being blasted with water. And how am I supposed to hang it on my tile anyways? I saw this caddy and instantly thought of the kitchen. It would be perfect for storing your most-used spices, olive oils or even jars of kitchen utensils.

    Kitchen in a Pot

Bed in a Bag is convenient, but I like this Kitchen in a Pot set so much better. Technically, these are designed for hikers / campers, but I would love to see a similar product designed for a real kitchen. The light-weight set includes everything you need - pots with strainer lids, cups and bowls/plates and would be perfect for someone with an efficiency kitchen or even in a dorm.

    Recycling Revolution

I usually dump all of my recycling into a big trashcan and carry that out to my recycle bin in the driveway. That is, I did. I recently found out that my city does not actually recycle glass. It all ends up in the landfill. Boo.

I did, however, find a local company that really recycles glass as well as aluminum, paper and stuff like batteries. So now I’ll need to separate by material. I’ve seen recycling stations for the home at places like Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel. But they are way out of my price range. But, this Trofast storage system from Ikea is perfect - i.e. under $100 - and not too shabby in the looks department.
