Shelterrific posted this DIY idea this afternoon. It’s a simple slipcovered headboard embroidered with an iron headboard design (tutorial here). It seems like you could also use iron-on transfers or applique. So I found some inexpensive custom headboard options at JC Penney ($160-$400).

    That’s a Wrap

Using wallpaper without having to commit to putting on your walls? What a fantastic idea. Bryonie Porter takes furniture and wraps it in fabulous design.

I wondered how hard this would be to do at home and found this tutorial over at Apartment Therapy. It definitely doesn’t sound easy, but it might be worth a try.

    More Holiday Treats

I remember making gingerbread houses with my parents as a kid. Of course, my dad was an engineer so putting together a large cookie structure was but a small challenge. As an adult, the idea of a gingerbread house is completely overwhelming. I can never get the darned thing to pass safety codes and all the little gingerbread men inside are in constant danger of being crushed. But these adorable coffee cup gingerbread houses actually look like manageable project. Not Martha created each one by hand and has been kind enough to post a step-by-step and patterns over on her blog.

    The Best Laid Plans

For about $5 a pop, PlanCanvas sells plans for modern furniture you can make yourself, usually from just one sheet of plywood. They even provide a materials list and links to buy necessary tools. I like to imagine myself handy, although this is really not the case at all. So, I’d like to believe I’ll be cranking out my own bookshelves next week. The truth is, the only tools I own are a screwdriver set and a hammer and I’m terrified of electric saws. But, if you’re not, this stuff is a heck of a lot cooler than anything you’ll find at Ikea. And probably easier to put together.

    Crates Get A Lift

These recycled wine crates make the best bookshelves. The elegant paper makes the perfect backdrop for books and collectibles. The instructions don’t sound too complicated - just some measuring cutting and gluing. And, best of all, you can get the crates for free at most liquor stores. Get the complete instructions here.

    Wallpaper Projects

It’s been raining for about two weeks straight here in Dallas. So, I’m probably not the only one in town looking for an indoor project to keep themselves busy.

I’ve been eying “50 Wallpaper Projects”. It is full of great ways to bring bold wallpaper patterns into a room without committing to entire walls and days of frustraiting hanging.

The book is available at Fred Flare for $23.

Soufflé / Cake in a Mug

300pxbaked1Here’s the latest diet doomsday device - a cake you can make in 5 minutes using your microwave and a coffee cup.

Based on the ingredients, this is more on the souffle-side as it has one egg and just four tablespoons of flour. But it looks delicious.

    day-lab diy’s simply pretty bedroom

Bedroomfeb281This is a photo of day-lab diy’s finished bedroom makeover. She started on it from scratch a year ago (see photo below).

Bedm21 I love the vintagy wall arrangement, which 1920s and 1930s sheet music.

And yes, that is an Ikea bed that’s been painted yellow. It’s amazing how that color transforms the piece from modern to cottage-chic.
