I once spent an entire month scouring Craig’s List for vintage Bertoia chairs. I found a few, but the price tags were way out of my league. Today I discovered the blueprint chair at CB2 marked down to $70 a chair. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s really close and, most importantly, affordable.
I am jealous of anyone who actually needs stools right now. This bar stool from Crate and Barrel is my favorite color of green and on sale for $50.
I recently discovered Straight Line Designs, a furniture company that has a completely fresh and creative approach to furniture design. You’ve probably seen some of their whimsical furniture designs around the net (I’d give you a link, but their site is flash so I can only link to the home page). But I really, really love their more adult pieces, including this amazing tear-away credenza.
Using wallpaper without having to commit to putting on your walls? What a fantastic idea. Bryonie Porter takes furniture and wraps it in fabulous design.
I wondered how hard this would be to do at home and found this tutorial over at Apartment Therapy. It definitely doesn’t sound easy, but it might be worth a try.
I had written off West Elm the last few months. They just weren’t doing anything interesting, or even new, for that matter. But the catalog I received yesterday changed my mind. Though they are still over-priced, they’ve got some new designs that I love. I am now completely obsessed with the Dot coffee and side tables. They’re made with oak veneer, and while they look like they way a ton, the description says “light-weight construction.” If only their prices were on the lighter side. They’re tipping the scales at $399 and $149, respectively.
It’s New Year’s Eve, the night when most people don their best duds and head out to join the party. And, apparently, your chairs are feeling left out.
The idea of putting socks on something that never does a thing but sit around seems kind of silly. But I love silly. The idea behind these chair socks is to give your chair a little bit more personality, but they also seem like a good way to keep from scratching the floor when you have a little too much champagne and accidentally tip one over.
Happy New Year!
Did anyone else have one of those ridiculous spin-art shirts growing up? You know, the ones they’d let you make at the craft store? No? Just me, I guess. Anyways, that shirt was a don’t, but I actually think this splatter painted chair from Urban Outfitters is a do. I love the red and the lines and the splatter paint actually makes it look sort of old and loved.
For about $5 a pop, PlanCanvas sells plans for modern furniture you can make yourself, usually from just one sheet of plywood. They even provide a materials list and links to buy necessary tools. I like to imagine myself handy, although this is really not the case at all. So, I’d like to believe I’ll be cranking out my own bookshelves next week. The truth is, the only tools I own are a screwdriver set and a hammer and I’m terrified of electric saws. But, if you’re not, this stuff is a heck of a lot cooler than anything you’ll find at Ikea. And probably easier to put together.
The base of this Geo Side Table sort of looks like a scribble, but there is something very elegant about it. It’s light and airy and would add a great architectural element to any room. And for West Elm it’s pretty inexpensive - just $199.
