I have to admit I’m not a New Year’s resolution gal. The prospect of doing something for 365 days is just way too daunting. But I do think the new year is a great time to try to form positive new habits. Like actually tracking the calories I burn instead of guessing that a 30 minute walk roughly equals a cheeseburger’s worth. To that end, I just ordered the Fit Bit One - $95 from Amazon.com. It not only tracks steps, distance, calories burned, and length and quality of sleep – it’s also small enough to hide under your clothes. (Above: New Year card from Hennel Paper Co, $4)
I also decided to do a better job of keeping the house tidy. I’m a stacker. I come into my clean house and immediately start stacking mail, books, magazines, coats, and clothes on every available surface rather than putting them back where they belong. It turns out changing this behavior is pretty simple using one trick a friend told me about: if it will take less than a minute, do it right now. So far so good. I found a few more simple cleaning tips over at Real Simple – including how to pick up pet hair with a wet rubber glove.
Happy New Year everyone!
