    Gift Wrap Inspiration

Looking for gift wrap options beyond the store-bought paper and over-priced ribbon? How about fabric? It’s perfect for little ones who might get paper cuts. Plus, the wrapping is reusable as a scarf or for crafting.

Or tissue paper fringe to dress up plain paper?

Or yarn and cut-paper instead of ribbons and bows?

Using fabric strips in place of ribbon is another great money-saver.

You can even make your own gift bags, if you are so inclined.

    Head Case

I’ve been looking for a new utensil holder forever and never find anything I like. Until I saw this Phrenology vase from Safari Fusion repurposed as a utensil holder over at Kitchen Life. Too bad it’s a wee bit pricey.

Bar Cart, I Love You, But You’re Bringing Me Down

Bar carts are everywhere lately, and, yes, I’ll admit I’ve been won over. They’re chic. But, as a friend of mine asked on Pinterest, why are they so d$%# expensive? (Cart above from Crate and Barrel, $599!) So it’s off to Craig’s List to see if there are deals to be had. I started by searching “bar cart” and came up with some expensive, antique options. Lovely, but not what I’m looking for. Then I searched “rolling cart.” Success. Below are a few of the options I found around Austin. All of them need some DIY love, but if you really want a bar cart, Craig’s List is worth a look.

A metal rolling cart for $40. It could use a coat of spray paint, but otherwise it’s lovely.

This cart is a bit more of a project. It’s dirty and painting over laminate can be tricky. But the lines are good and it’s $20, which means more money for fancy cocktail fixin’s.

This industrial cart is my favorite. It’s already got great color and seems to be in need only of a wipe down. $50.

It’s The Most Craftiest Time of the Year

My absolute favorite part of the holidays has to be the holiday crafting. Well, rum cake may be number one, but crafting is a close second. I especially like finding fun new ways to wrap presents. Like these dual-purpose clothes pins created by Creature Comforts. All you need is a clothes pin, a little glitter, glue and some holiday-themed miniatures to create ornaments that work on your tree or as a topper for gifts.

    Say It Ain’t So, Frosty

I can’t help but laugh at these Sunny Day Snowman cookies from Land o’ Lakes.  That doesn’t mean I don’t feel a little bit guilty about it. Poor old Frosty. He never had a chance.

    Puppy Love

I’m desperately trying to resist this Sweater Pup cookie jar I discovered on Anthropologie. But I don’t know how much longer I can hold out. This would be the perfect place for my dog’s treats. $68.
