Surfing Pinterest, I found a nice resource for affordable Midcentury sofas from Retro Renovations. I would probably quibble about the affordability of some of the options listed, but White on White is a nice discovery. Unfortunately, their only locations are NYC and L.A. (coming soon).
Above, New York Sofa, $1495.
Peacock Credenza, $1895.
If you are getting tired of the same-old Jack O’ Lanterns, The Art of Doing Stuff has a great tutorial for making your own synthetic pumpkin diorama. Not only can you can reuse it every year, it’s super cool.
This gorgeous piece of art seems like one of those things I might convince myself I could make at home. 14 wasted pads of Post Its later, I would realize that was absolutely not the case. I guess I’ll just have to settle for admiring it from afar. See more of Nathalie’s work here.
Wine charms are great if you’ve got stemware. But stems are a little to dainty (read: classy) for my house. I generally serve wine in tumbler glasses and keeping track of which one is yours is on you. Luckily, CB2 has a witty alternative: Who’s Wine Glasses. A set of four is $20.
West Elm has just launched West Elm Market, selling beautifully-designed everyday items to help you organize, bake, repair, garden, and clean. I have to say, the site has been a tad glitchy over the last few days, but the products do not disappoint. The prices are mid-range, though there are some steals in there. I’m definitely looking forward to picking up some of their canisters and cooking utensils.
Storage Canisters, $19-$39; Paper Bakeware (to make you feel like a pro), $9.95; Mango Wood Spice Rack with Recycled Glass Jars, a steal at $24; Terracotta Watering Can, ? (technical problems with site prevented me from getting a price).
Apparently, when it comes to Halloween ideas, I should stop posting to this blog and just direct you to MarthaStewart.com. I get her Halloween issue every year, and yet I keep finding new ideas on her site. Example: this creepy centerpiece. Totally easy, and – bonus – you get an excuse to buy fresh flowers.
I just ran across a fantastic last-second Halloween idea from Martha Stewart. This spooky curtain is made out of plain old black garbage bags. So smart.
While searching Etsy for modern photography prints, I ran across Lily’s Walls, a shop run by working artist and professor, Lily Mayfield. Her works are striking. I particularly like her “details” series (which includes the top two photos) and her “Fem” series (bottom two). Her prints are available in multiple sizes, framed or unframed.
Sometimes, I feel like having these sorts of table-top knick knacks just means more stuff to dust. And then I see something like these charming Constellation Rocks and I have to think the extra dusting might be worth it. $40 for the set of 12 … or you could do some research and DIY them with river rocks and a Sharpie.
