    Furalicious

PB Teen does it again. I know this is a bean bag covered in fake fur ridiculously named the furalicious beanbag and that as an adult I should find it silly, but I actually think it’s very chic and kind of want one for myself. It would be perfect in a little reading nook. Oh, and don’t let the $70 price tag fool you into thinking it’s a steal. They charge another $129 for the insert. Ouch.

Summer Recipe: Peach and Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta

I had a few ripe peaches lying around earlier this week and made this modified bruschetta with what I had on hand, which happened to be some organic cherry tomatoes from the local farmer’s market and honeyed goat cheese. It was surprisingly wonderful, so I couldn’t resist sharing.

    Peach and Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta:

    1 ripe peach, diced
yellow and red cherry or grape tomatoes (probably 10 to 12), diced
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 tablespoon peppery olive oil
    2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar
    1 tablespoon honey
    1 tablespoon chopped basil, divided
cracked black pepper and salt to taste
two large slices of crusty sourdough cut in half
    two tablespoons honeyed goat cheese

Combine peach, tomatoes, garlic, oil, vinegar, half of basil, honey, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Preheat oven to 350. Top bread slices with equal amounts of peach mixture, reserving left-over vinegar sauce. Toast for five minutes or so. Take out and top with goat cheese and remaining basil and toast for another two minutes. Plate and top with remaining sauce if desired.

    Serves two.

    Eco and Style Friendly

It may not be easy being green, but being green just got really easy on the eyes. These single-use plates and bowls from WASARA are beautiful and totally sustainable. Talk about fancying up the average summer BBQ.

    The Cat’s Meow

What a fantastic solution for indoor cats! It seems like you could also modify sturdy bracketed shelves for the same purpose by adding rubber matting or astroturf to the surface.

    No-Brainer

These Nomskulls cupcake molds are equal parts gross and hilarious. Maker Fred and Friends writes,

“Knock ‘em dead with these four stylish silicone skulls. Nomskulls are ready to fill with your favorite grey batter and bake into perfect cupcake craniums. One bite and you’ll be head over heels, because there’s no doubt about it — this skull bone’s connected to the YUM bone! We’ve packed four silicone skull molds in each printed giftbox.”

    Fall Gardens

Living in Dallas means getting your gardening done early. By this time of year we have temperatures that stay consistently in the way upper 90s and even in the dark of night it rarely gets cooler than 89. I usually plant tomatoes, sticking with varietals that tolerate the heat well. But by now they’ve stopped setting on. Typically, if you leave the tomato plants in the ground, they’ll produce a small crop in September and October. But that’s all I’ve ever known about fall gardening. That’s until I saw this post from the folks at Ready Made. They list several resources for gardening almost year round, including the What to Plant Now web site, which I found really helpful.

The site allows you to search by region and month for crops that will do well in your area and even tells you whether to start the seeds outside or indoors. I can’t wait to try my hand at growing radishes and summer squash and maybe even a little broccoli.

    If it Ain’t Broke…

People rave about beer can chicken (basically a chicken cooked with a beer can – how can I say this delicately? – um, shoved inside it). And now cooking it is all classed up thanks to this Beer Can Chicken Rack from Uncrate. Interesting since it seems the charm of the whole beer can chicken recipe comes from using an actual can of beer.

    WE Gets a Makeover

I got my copy of West Elm’s new catalog yesterday and holy wow are they looking different. The catlog’s styling and the site have gotten a complete makeover. I love the new organic feel and the way they’re styling their decor. But I was disappointed to find that many of my favorite pieces were items West Elm doesn’t sell. Oh well, it’s still great inspiration.

    I’m As Big As

This is a lot more fun and less destructive to the woodwork than the average height chart. It tells you which iconical items, mythological creatures or objects familiar or bizarre you measure up to. Are you as big as a blue whale’s heart? Charles and Dianna’s wedding cake? You’ll have to order to find out.

    The Big O

I was on Overstock.com looking for a kitchen scale when I accidentally started browsing furniture instead. That’s when I found this super cool acrylic coffee table with built in magazine racks for just $250. I do love the O.
