    Domino

What makes Domino Magazine so unique from other home decor and design magazines? Well, for one thing their goal is that your home should make you happy and they spend about 150 pages helping busy, style-conscious people, furnish their homes in a comfortable and personal way.  Their underlying belief is that:

"your home is the backdrop, the setting, and even the springboard for
your life: the more efficiently it functions, the more it reflects your
needs and the life you live, the happier you will be. In short, domino
is about the cult of a happy home."

They have a manifesto they live by:

    • Home Should Make You Happy!
    • We swear by the 3 R’s: repaint, repaper, reupholster
    • Steal ideas from other people’s houses
    • Even the insides of the closets & cabinets can be beautiful
    • It’s ok to NOT BE finished
    • TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS—ALWAYS!
    • A chandelier is as timeless as a black dress
    • Renters need not be second class citizens
    • Sometimes your mistakes become your greatest inspirations
    • DON’T BE AFRAID TO MIX STYLES (Louis XIV and Eero Saarinen should hang out more often)
    • When traveling, skip the snapshot and buy something unique for the coffee table
    • HAVE FUN!

These are all great and I’m all for inspiring the reader to step out of their comfort zones and make their homes a happier place, but what I think gives Domino that head and shoulders above the crowd quality are the "love it. want it. flag it." stickers that come in every issue.

These colorful, organizational stickers are designed to help the reader keep track of what they want to buy or what they want to try. I love that! For those, like myself, that are usually buying post it notes to use as page markers, this is an exceptional tool. With specific categories like: decorate, entertain, garden, renovate, and gift, (each in a different color) you can literally bookmark areas of interest throughout the magazine. Totally Cool!

You must check it out! It is one of the best design and decor magazines on the market without a doubt.

I love Domino but I always wish it were thicker. It’s a little on the skinny side for me. What I think really works is that the style in Domino is totally eclectic looking - a mix of styles that is really the way most of our homes look b/c we were not buying things with a decorator at our side and having “themes” but buying things that we loved and trying to work them into our homes.

I agree with you that they have such a mix of styles it is too bad their is just not more of it in each issue. Their website, however, is very “thick” jam packed full of DIY tips and tricks as well as so many other resources and decorating ideas. It is awesome!
