If You’re Not Into Throws, You’re Not Into Comfort

The bloggers at ask the decorator say that "throws are one of decorator’s secrets to making a room feel comfy and cozy".  We certainly agree so here are some throws that we like and some ways to use throws in your home this winter.

Fisherman Cable Throws give you that relaxed feeling that you get when you put on your favorite turtleneck sweater.  You can find the Fisherman Cable Throws at Garnet Hill for $148.

The Kookoon Silk Throws is stunning and decadent. Made with a charmeuse silk fabric and filled silk filling, the Kookoon Silk Throws exude luxury. You can find the Kookoon Silk Throws at 2modern for $625.

My favorite throw is from Pottery Barn.  The warm and comfy faux, fur throws will definitely take off the winter chill. They are knit from a sable-soft, acrylic/polyester blend and backed with plush color-matched polyester. On sale now at Pottery  Barn for $119.00.

    Throwing Around Color

Throws are a wonderful way to add color to a room because they look good just about anywhere. When choosing which color throw blanket to use, first look around your room. Because throws are fairly big, you will want to find which accent color isn’t used enough and that’s the color to choose. If that doesn’t work for you, look to see if one side of your room is lacking a color that is used a lot on another side of the room. If so, use a throw blanket to add that color to the side of the room lacking it. Balancing the colors in your room will make it look cohesive and soothing.

    Choosing Plain or Patterned Throws

Throws are used as decorative accents in a room – not main focal points, which means you have some leeway when choosing whether to use a patterned or solid color throw. A very general rule that can be broken is to use solid color throws on patterned objects and patterned throws on solid color objects. You can also use solid color throws on solid color objects, but be very careful using a patterned throw on a patterned object. Too much pattern can be a bit overwhelming.

    Where to Use Throws

Throws can be used in practically any room other than kitchens or bathrooms. Here are some suggestions on where to use throws:

Chairs. Drape a throw blanket over the back or on the arm of a chair.

Sofas. Drape a throw blanket over the back or on the arm of a sofa.

Ottomans. Fold a throw blanket so that it is thin and long and drape it over an ottoman for an ordered feel or simply throw it over one side of an ottoman for a casual feel.

Benches. Drape a throw blanket over the back or arm of a bench.

Beds. Casually place a throw blanket at the end of a bed for an accent of color.

Window Seats. Place a throw blanket on a window seat to make it look more inviting.
